Our Birmingham and Alabama Stock Report kicked off the week on a positive note.

A trio of big companies led a large group of gainers on Monday: Amazon (+3.9%), GE (+3.3%) and AT&T (+3%).

Synovus Financial Corp. picked up 2.8%. Based in Columbus, Ga., it operates with 32 branches in 20 different cities and towns in the state of Alabama.

Vulcan Materials gained 1.2%.

Medical Properties Trust and Warrior Met Coal were among a group of seven decliners, falling 1.6% and .9%, respectively.

Overall, Wall Street clawed back some of its sharp recent losses Monday, ahead of a week that could see more big swings in financial markets.
