Wait, wait, Jason Isbell thought Bluey died?

Alabama born singer-songwriter Jason Isbell made his debut as a quiz show panelist on Saturday’s episode of NPR’s “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!

The episode, as host Peter Sagal noted, marked his entry into “the entire spoken word genre” and comes just three months after Isbell was a guest on the show.

The guest this time around was Renée Elise Goldsberry of “Hamilton” and “Girls5Eva,” but Isbell had to field a few questions himself.

And, well, it got pretty awkward.

Sagal asked the “Cover Me Up” singer why a Belgian man arrested for driving drunk was acquitted.

“He was being chased by a Frenchman. I dunno,” Isbell replied. Sagal then explained that the man’s body produced its own alcohol as a result of a rare medical condition.

“His body makes alcohol? And that was true?” Isbell said. “You shouldn’t tell a recovering alcoholic things like this, Peter. We’ll start experimenting.”

The oddest exchange of the show, however, came when Sagal asked why the Australian children’s show “Bluey” had recently been in the news.

“He died,” Isbell said, sparking laughter from the audience.

“There was something that made people that think it was going to be the last episode of ‘Bluey’ but I didn’t read the whole article, just the headline and I thought, ‘I’m 45-years-old I’m not reading this.’”

Sagal gave another hint, saying that the beloved cartoon character went “grayey.”

“He held his breath until he passed out?”

Sagal explained that at the end of the season Bluey appeared as a full-grown dog with pups of her own.

Isbell nearly derailed the lightening round after complaining that the first answers were Trump, TikTok, and Tesla.

“Is this just to make me say (expletive) I don’t want to say,” Isbell asked. “As long as I don’t have to keep saying the words I hate the most, I’m happy,” he said when told he was still behind on points.

Asked at the end of the show for a heart-warming prediction about the upcoming Summer Olympics, Isbell said since it will be in Paris “there finally going to have a smoking section for the children.”
