Voters open to third political party as long as it isn’t Elon Musk’s, poll shows

There is an appetite for a third political party in America, according to a new poll.

But voters lose interest when asked if they would consider Elon Musk’s new third party, the Quinnipiac Poll released Wednesday found.

About half of registered voters — 49% — said they would consider an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties, the survey showed.

Independents are the most eager to join a third party at 75%, followed by Democrats at 39% and Republicans at 28%.

Another 45% said they would not consider joining a third party.

Elon Musk’s third party, the America Party, has little support.

Asked if they would consider joining a third party if Musk created one, just 17% said yes. Another 77% said no.

Musk’s party has the most appeal with independents at 22%.

Of the major parties, Republicans would consider Musk’s party — 18% — at a higher rate than Democrats at just 6%.

The world’s richest man created the party over the July 4 weekend as he broke with President Donald Trump over the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Musk was the president’s largest donor and was a key figure in the administration, wielding influence with the Department of Government Efficiency in an effort to cut waste, fraud and abuse from the federal government.

During their feud, Musk claimed the Epstein files have not been released because the president is in them.

Meanwhile, Trump threatened to cut the lucrative government contracts given to Musk’s companies.
