Check out the nominees for the Cunningham Bounds Coastal Alabama Football Player of the Week for Week 3 of the 2023 high school football season.
Coaches can submit statistics following their games on Friday night or nominate players before noon each Saturday.
Nominations must come from a coach or official team statistician. They can be emailed to [email protected].
Voting is open until Wednesday morning. The winner will be announced on AL.com on Thursday.
Here are this week’s nominees:
Carlos Benjamin Jr., Vigor: Benjamin ran for 198 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries as the Wolves rallied from a 28-7 fourth-quarter deficit to beat Citronelle in overtime. Benjamin’s night included a 99-yard touchdown run.
Braxton Clark, Theodore: Clark scored four touchdowns (two receiving, two rushing) as Theodore won its second straight game, beating Murphy.
Anthony Hayes Jr., Excel: The converted offensive lineman, who started the last 12 games for Excel on the offensive line, made the switch to running back. Hayes had 18 carries for 226 yards and three rushing TDs in a 28-26 Region 1 win over Cottage Hill Christian Academy.
Landon Duckworth, Jackson: The South Carolina QB commit accounted for five touchdowns in a win over Orange Beach. Duckworth was 10-of-17 passing for 201 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on three carries.
Daylon Edmunds, Millry: Edmunds threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more as Millry rolled over Southern Choctaw. Edmunds was 10-of-15 passing for 169 yards. He scored on runs of 7 and 2 yards.
Michael Moore, Mobile Christian: Moore caught seven passes for 218 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown, as the Leopards improved to 3-0 with a win at W.S. Neal.
Josh Flowers, Baker: The Mississippi State QB commit accounted for 358 total yards and three touchdowns as the Hornets broke a school record for points in a 66-28 win over Davidson. Flowers scored on runs of 3 and 57 yards and also connected with Kevin Beckham on a 38-yard score.
K.J. Lacey, Saraland: The Texas QB commit went 11-of-17 passing for 275 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 20 yards and another TD as the Spartans defeated St. Paul’s.
Ellis McGaskin, Williamson: McGaskin scored a touchdown and also led the defense with 12 tackles in a win over Elberta.
Devin Pettway, Mary G. Montgomery: Pettway returned an interception 43 yards for a score as the MGM defense stuffed No. 9 Foley in a 28-7 win.
Javarous White, Blount: White led the Leopard defense with 13 tackles, including four for a loss, to go with three sacks and a forced fumble against Robertsdale.
