Vikings rookie Dallas Turner learning from ‘Money Man’
Even though Christian Darrisaw had a year left on his rookie contract and Minnesota had exercised its option for another season beyond that, the Vikings still opened training camp by signing their left offensive tackle to a four-year, $104 million contract extension.
That means Darrisaw should be around to school outside linebacker Dallas Turner for the duration of the rookie’s first NFL contract.
“I ain’t going to lie: He hard, for sure,” Turner said about Darrishaw. “C.D. hard, for sure. But, you know, going against a guy like that, I know if I go against a guy like that in practice every day, I know the game’s going to be easy.
“Money Man. Yeah, that’s him, for sure. But the work speaks for itself, for sure. He definitely deserved every single coin of that, and he shows it every single day in practice locking me up.
“I know he’s going to get me better every single day because I ain’t never seen a tackle like that.”

The Vikings obtained Turner at No. 17 in the NFL Draft on April 25 as an unprecedented run on offensive players in the first round pushed him down. To move up from the 23rd spot to take Turner from Alabama, Minnesota traded the Jacksonville Jaguars the 23rd and 167th picks this year and third- and fourth-round selections in next year’s draft.
“Ah, man, he’ll be all right,” Darrisaw told Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune about Turner. “He’s learning. He’s got the talent. Anything I can do to help.”
The Vikings are working Turner in a variety of pass-rush positions to prepare him for his first NFL season.
“They tried to throw a lot at me,” Turner said, “but I feel like I handled it very well, just knowing my playbook, just being Dallas. …
“It’s different. Obviously, I’m in the NFL and stuff like that compared to college, but I’ll say the workload might be a little different compared to college. In Alabama, it was every day and stuff like that. Here, you kind of get to learn things, kind of get your technique down and slow it down. But when it’s time to speed up, it’s time to speed up.”
The time to speed up is drawing near, with Minnesota set to start its three-game preseason schedule on Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Vikings will kick off their regular-season slate on Sept. 8 against the New York Giants.
