Video shows Florida wildlife officers wrangling alligator on Air Force base runway

An alligator forced out of its home by a larger gator may have been looking to get out of town when the reptile parked itself underneath an aircraft at an Air Force base in Florida this week.

According to MacDill Air Force Base in south Tampa, the alligator was found underneath the wheels of a large aircraft parked on the base tarmac Monday.

The base called in officers with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission to wrangle the reptile, which wasn’t interested in going peacefully, putting up quite a struggle with the two officers, as seen in the video posted to the MacDill AFB Facebook page.

Ultimately, though, the large gator was loaded into a truck and given a ride off the base.

“Our newest toothy Airman has been relocated to a more suitable environment off base,” MacDill posted. “Special thanks to FWC for the assist.”

The gator was released into the Hillsborough River, the base reported.

The FWC officers said they suspected the alligator had been forced out of its normal habitat by “Elvis,” a larger gator known to live in the area.
