Video showing two Mobile police vehicles drag racing sparks investigation

Mobile police say they are investigating an incident caught on video of two police vehicles racing down a street.

Blake Brown, a spokesperson for the Mobile Police Department, said the incident appears to have taken place several years ago but will still be looked into.

“It appears this is an old video and not a recent incident,” Brown said. “However, we’re looking into it and we’ll let you know once we have more information. All concerns are investigated, and this is no exception.”

The video posted on Facebook depicts two Mobile police vehicles lined up across from each other as an individual stands in the middle.

A few seconds into the video the individual appears to give a signal leading both cars to begin racing down the road.

Both cars continue to get faster as they speed down the road and the vehicle on the left appears to pass the other shortly before the video ends.

Under Alabama law drag racing is defined as “the operation of two or more vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other.”
