Video of cruelty to a dog on social media leads to Alabama man’s arrest, authorities say

Lauderdale County authorities say a Florence man is facing charges of animal cruelty after he was allegedly seen on video mistreating a dog.

Nathaniel Shane Brewster, 20, is being held on $1,500 bond in the Lauderdale County Jail on charges of animal cruelty, second degree marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, investigators became aware Monday of a video on social media showing animal cruelty toward a dog.

After obtaining a search warrant for a residence in Zip City, Brewster was arrested.

According to court documents, Brewster was seen on video “cruelly mistreating a dog” sometime in November or December of 2023, which was confirmed by his ex-girlfriend.

The dog shown in the video was rescued and turned over to the Florence/Lauderdale Animal Shelter, according to the sheriff’s office.
