Video links former Alabama coach Brad Bohannon to flagged bettor, ESPN reports
Information continues to drip out as the University of Alabama, the Southeastern Conference and gambling regulators look into the suspicious wager on the Alabama-LSU game on April 28th.
On Thursday, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN’s David Purdum that “sportsbook surveillance video indicated” that whoever made the flagged bet in Ohio’s Great American Ballpark was in contact with now-fired Alabama coach Brad Bohannon.
It’s the first known direct link between the bets and a member of the Crimson Tide program. The Ohio Casino Control Commission — which halted bets on Alabama baseball on Monday after an independent monitoring service alerted them last weekend — told AL.com it has been in contact with the NCAA as investigations further develop.
“Alabama director of athletics Greg Byrne announced he has initiated the termination process for head baseball coach Brad Bohannon for, among other things, violating the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of University employees. Bohannon has been relieved of all duties and Jason Jackson will serve as the interim head coach. There will be no further comment at this time pending an ongoing review,” UA said a statement provided Thursday morning.
A few hours later, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey commented on the “swift action” taken by Alabama in Bohannon’s dismissal. At least four states have prevented any more bets on Tide baseball, which starts a three-game home series against Vanderbilt tonight, including New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
