Victim, suspect identified in deadly shooting at Etowah County home

Authorities on Friday identified the Etowah County homeowner shot to death inside his residence Thursday and the suspect charged with killing him.

Tyler Golden, 35, of Altoona, was the resident of the home in the 2000 block of Self Street who was found by Etowah County sheriff’s deputies shot to death around 1 a.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

“It’s a senseless act. It’s an act of aggression that was unnecessary, it has permanent left consequences,” said Sheriff Jonathan Horton.

Jason Paul Souza, 38, of Albertville, has been charged with murder in connection with Golden’s death. He is being held in the Etowah County jail without bond.

Souza and a woman were detained for questioning.
