Veteran Birmingham police officer named interim deputy chief
A 36-year veteran of the Birmingham Police Department has been named an interim deputy chief.
Mayor Randall L. Woodfin on Monday announced Capt. Raymond Cochran as the interim head of Patrol Operations.
Cochran’s appointment follows the retirement of Deputy Chief Onree Pruitt.
Additionally, the mayor announced the retirement of Assistant Chief Edmond Hanks. Woodfin said that position will not immediately be filled.
Cochran has previously served as commander of the South Precinct, Narcotics Division, Crimes Against Property Division, and the Tactical Operations Division.
Most recently he served as acting deputy chief of Patrol Operations.
A veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom, Cochran served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 29 years. He successfully completed multiple military leadership training courses.
Cochran holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Miles College.
He joins the BPD command staff led by Chief Michael Pickett which includes Deputy Chief of Administrative Operations Rodarius Mauldin, Deputy Chief of Investigative Operations Jeffrey Brown, and Interim Deputy Chief of Special Operations JaCorey Foster.
