Vestavia Hillsâ 5-star EDGE Jordan Ross picks Tennessee
A summer of offseason work has only solidified Vestavia Hills’ coach Robert Evans’ opinion of star EDGE Jordan Ross.
“If things continue to go well and he develops consistently, he will be a Sunday player,” Evans said. “No question about that.”
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Ross decided where he will play his Saturday games tonight, committing to Tennessee over Florida, Alabama and Texas.

“Jordan played about 210 last year,” Evans said. “He’s put on 20 pounds of good weight and is still explosive and twitchy. He’s going to be 250-260 as a sophomore or junior in college.
“There is a premium in every level of football on guys who can get after and disrupt the quarterback, and that is what Jordan is naturally gifted at. He has those raw attributes everyone is looking for in a player.”
Ross, the No. 9 player on AL.com’s A-List of top senior prospects in the state, had 49 tackles for Vestavia in 2022 with 16 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. He also added several forced fumbles and two defensive touchdowns.
On Monday night, he first put on a Florida hat before saying, “this doesn’t feel right.” He then grabbed a Tennessee hat.
“He’s got a high-end motor where he will go until he just can’t go anymore,” Evans said recently. “When he’s after the quarterback and he’s fresh, there aren’t many people like him around the country, really, in high school football.”
Ross, a 5-star prospect, is 247 sports’ No. 1 senior recruit in the state of Alabama. The On3 and Rivals rankings both have him at No. 5. He is the 20th commitment in Tennessee’s 2024 class, which currently ranks No. 6 nationally.
Ross said he plays to be a team leader for the Vols and bring some aggression.
“I can’t wait to step on campus,” he said.
His decision leaves just one top 10 player in the 247 composite rankings who has yet to commit – Hoover LB Bradley Shaw. Other top uncommitted seniors in the state include Clay-Chalkville WR Mario Craver, McAdory TE JaCorey Whitted, Rogers RB Damian Thompson and Thompson DB Kaleb Harris.
