Verizon Wireless $100 million settlement: Who is eligible and how much could you receive?
Verizon mobile phone customers could be eligible for part of a proposed $100 million class action settlement.
The lawsuit, filed in New Jersey, claims U.S. customers who signed up for Verizon’s wireless service plans at certain monthly rates ended up paying more due to undisclosed administration fees that were charged in a “deceptive and unfair manner,” according to the settlement website.
The charges started at 40 cents a month for each phone line in 2005 and have increased multiple times, rising to $3.30 a line in 2022, Barrons reported. Verizon isn’t admitting any wrongdoing and denies the lawsuit has merit. Settlement documents said it would continue to assess the fees but change its customer agreement to disclose the charges.
Who is eligible?
All current and former account holders with wireless or data services that were charged Verizon’s administrative charges between Jan. 1, 2016, to Nov. 8, 2023, are eligible. Eligible customers will receive a notice by mail or email.
Eligible customers will receive up to $100, depending on how many claims are filed. Barrons reported the minimum payment would be $15, plus $1 for each month the customer paid the charge.
People have until Feb. 20 to opt out of the settlement and until April 15 to file a claim. You can see more on filing a claim here.
