Urban Meyer reacts to being mentioned for Texas A&M coaching job
Everybody who is anyone is coming up with a list of potential candidates for the open Texas A&M head coaching job.
Atop many of the wish lists is Fox college football analyst Urban Meyer. The former Florida and Ohio State coach was asked if there is any chance anybody can convince him to come out of retirement and head to College Station.
“No desire,” Meyer told Ali Peek. “I love what I’m doing. That ship has sailed. I’m very grateful for, I think, 37 years in the game and loved it. No desire.”
One by one coaches are being asked about the job recently held by Jimbo Fisher, who was fired on Sunday.
Oregon’s Dan Lanning said there was “zero chance” he is leaving the Ducks. Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said he “wasn’t going there” when he was asked about the A&M gig.
The move to get rid of Fisher will cost the school $75 million. It also ends a tenure which began six years ago with the Aggies presenting him an engraved national championship trophy missing only the year.
Fisher was lured away from Florida State, where he had won a national championship in 2013, by a massive 10-year, fully guaranteed contract at the end of the 2017 season. The deal was extended back to 10 years after the 2020 season.
Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork laid out Monday the criteria for the next Aggies coach.
