On Saturday at 12:34 a.m. an updated winter weather advisory was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 10 a.m. for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman counties.

The weather service comments, “Water on roads from snow melt is expected to freeze overnight into early this morning resulting in black ice and hazardous travel.”

“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous,” adds the weather service. “Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.”
