Up to 5 inches of rain possible this week in Alabama
Rain will be the main player in the Alabama weather forecast this week, with a few storms thrown in as well.
The rain isn’t expected to be constant, but National Weather Service said some spots in Alabama could get up to 5 inches of rain by Saturday.
No severe weather is expected for today through Thursday, but NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the potential for a few stronger storms on Friday for south Alabama. However, that threat is still a low-confidence one as of Monday, according to the weather service.
Here’s the severe weather outlook for Friday:
The possibility of rain is more certain. It is expected to be on an off through the week and into the weekend.
The weather service expects rain chances to climb tonight, with widespread rain expected on Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be drier, but the next round of rain is expected starting on Thursday night and into Friday, according to forecasters.
Friday could bring a few stronger storms to south Alabama, but that’s not a sure thing at this point. Forecasters will zero in on the details of that system in the next few days.
Rain could linger into Saturday but is not expected to be a washout.
A cold front is expected to sweep out the rain and bring in cooler temperatures later in the weekend.
The sun is expected to make its return on Sunday, with mild temperatures in the forecast. However, Sunday could be the coolest day of the week, with highs in the 50s expected in north Alabama, the low to mid-60s in central Alabama, and the mid-to high 60s in south Alabama.
