Unemployment ticks up ‘for the right reasons’ in Birmingham metro

More people are entering the workforce as Alabama continues to recover from the Covid pandemic, experts say, and that’s nudging up the unemployment rate.

The Birmingham metro’s unemployment rate was 3.1% in February, per the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s a small uptick from January’s 3%, and up from 2.3% in February last year.
