Undercover child sex operation by Homewood police, FBI lands 6 men in jail
Six men were arrested in a two-day operation targeting child exploitation and human trafficking.
The Homewood Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force carried out Operation Cross County on Thursday and Friday.
Among those arrested was 57-year-old Marvin Gentry, who has photographed prep sports and other athletics for AL.com on a freelance basis in recent years. He most recently photographed U.S. Open Cup soccer in Birmingham and the AHSAA Baseball Championship in Jacksonville in May.
He has also worked as a freelancer for USA Today Sports, the Associated Press and several other news outlets, as well as Auburn University at Montgomery, according to his LinkedIn page.
Gentry is charged with electronic solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor for sex. His bond was set at $60,000.

– Robertin Gallegos, 64 of Alabaster, electronic solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor for Sex. Bond is set at $60,000.00.
– Decarlos Brown, 23 of Birmingham, electronic solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor for sex. Bond is set at $100,000.00.
– Logan Sullivan, 30 of Homewood, distribution of obscene material. Bond is set $45,000.00.
– John Washburn, 37 of Birmingham, electronic solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a minor for sex, and transmitting obscene material. Bond amount is set at $150,000.
– Randall Manweiler, 27 of Mount Olive, electronic solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor for sex. Bond is set at $90,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
