Ukrainian man pleads guilty to trying to take Russian woman from Alabama to New York for prostitution

A Ukrainian man has pleaded guilty to attempting to transport a Russian woman from south Alabama to New York for the purpose of prostitution.

According to court documents, Taras Kosmirak pleaded guilty Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

According to Fox10 News, Kosmirak is a war refugee from Ukraine.

The Russian woman, identified as M.L. in court records, has been living in the U.S. since 2018 and told authorities that she was aware of an individual who ran a human trafficking organization in Brooklyn.

The woman began working with law enforcement and she started contact with an individual to see if she could come work as a sex worker.

Records stated that the individual M.L. contacted was connected to the human trafficking organization and agreed to her becoming a sex worker.

“The individual explained to M.L. that she would arrange for Taras (later identified as Taras KOSMIRAK) to come pick M.L. up and bring her to New York,” court records read. “The individual provided a phone number for Kosmirak. It was explained that M.L. may have to perform sex acts with Kosmirak to secure transport to New York.”

Kosmirak and M.L. then began communicating which lead to Kosmirak coordinating a location to pick up M.L. in Gulf Shores.

Kosmirak arrived at the location the evening of March 14 and was arrested by law enforcement.

According to court documents, Kosmirak was interviewed and admitted he was trying to transport M.L. at the behest of a “madman” but claimed that he was not aware of what work he was transporting her for.

Kosmirak still awaits a court date for his sentencing.
