UAH president talks pandemic, enrollment and the goal for the university

In serving as the dean of engineering at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa for 17 years, Charles Karr had an idea of what he was getting into when he became president at the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Dec. 1, 2021.

Having been involved with the engineering department here for years, Karr said he was aware of UAH’s strengths.

“But I was not prepared for just how remarkable this community is,” he said. “My wife and I have just been really floored over just what a terrific community you folks here in north Alabama and Huntsville have created. It’s just all across the board. We’ve been taken aback in such a positive way. We’re really appreciative of the chance to be up here.”

Karr recently discussed his first few months as president with the Lede.
