Hopkins led the Blazers to a 17-9 record and the 2019 C-USA west division title during his time as starting quarterback. Appearing in 33 total games for UAB, Hopkins passed for 4,750 yards, 31 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, while adding 348 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground.

He signed with the 2018 recruiting class, redshirting his first season on the Southside, and took over for an injured Tyler Johnston III midway through the 2019 season, and early in the 2021 season, after missing 2020 due to injury. Current UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno started 3 games in place of Hopkins this season, due to the latter suffering a concussion at Western Kentucky.

Hopkins has one season of eligibility remaining.
