UAB lands commitments from two transfer wide receivers

Two wide receivers announced their commitments to UAB out of the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Kaleb Brown out of Iowa and Wingate transfer Evan McCray both announced their commitments to UAB on social media and became the Blazers’ first two transfers this cycle out of the portal.

Brown played in three games for Iowa this season and caught one pass for 18 yards. In 2023 after transferring from Ohio State, he hauled in 22 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown.

The former 4-star recruit amd native of Chicago, Illinois, was arrested June for operating while under the influence, according to a report from ESPN, and was suspended for the team’s 2024 season opener against Illinois State.

McCray finished his season as Division II Wingate’s leading receiver, totaling 42 passes for 634 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the team as it finished 9-2 and advanced to the Division II playoffs.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver finished his redshirt junior year and is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina.

UAB finished this season 3-9 overall and 2-6 in American Athletic Conference play in its second year under Trent Dilfer.
