UAB Hospital names new CEO; CFO picked for health system
UAB Health System has filled two executive positions with familiar faces from the Birmingham healthcare landscape.
Brenda Carlisle has been named CEO of UAB Hospital, while Susan Jennings will serve as CFO for the Health System. Both had been occupying those positions on an interim basis.
Carlisle previously served as vice president for clinical operations at the hospital. She served as COO prior to that, and in two other executive positions at Brookwood Medical Center. Carlisle began her career as a registered nurse, with more than 30 years in nursing management and health care operations in Alabama and Florida.
She has a master of health science degree from St. Francis University and an undergraduate nursing degree from the University of South Alabama.
Jennings has more than 35 years of experience in health care and has been with UAB since 2006. Before that, she spent 21 years with Ascension Health in Birmingham, rising to vice president of Seton Health Corp. She is a graduate of UAB.
Dawn Bulgarella, UAB Health System CEO, said in a statement that the two “are outstanding leaders with many years of experience in health care management.”
“They have contributed significantly to our positive momentum and are poised to address the many opportunities and challenges we face,” Bulgarella said. “These leaders are talented and dedicated professionals who will play major roles in leading the hospital and Health System forward in our relentless efforts to provide the highest level of health care for all Alabamians.”
