UAB football adds 4 high school signees to 2025 recruiting class

UAB signed four high school recruits on Wednesday, bringing its 2025 signing class to 30.

Signing with the Blazers on the first day of the late signing period were a pair of in-state players, Saraland wide receiver Carson “CD” Gill and Auburn offensive lineman Aidan Platt. They join two out-of-state recruits — offensive lineman Donovan Lawrence of Dacula, Ga., and tight end Aaron Mattingly of Mount Juliet, Tenn.

Gill (5-foot-8, 150 pounds) was a first-team all-state pick and one of the more productive players in the state for a Saraland program that reached the Class 6A state title game for the third straight year in 2024. He caught 76 passes for 1,341 yards and 20 touchdowns in 14 games for the Spartans, then added 91 yards and a TD on five receptions in December’s Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.

Platt (6-3, 290) was part of an Auburn offense that scored 44.7 points per game last season, which ranked atop Class 7A and No. 13 in the state of Alabama. He played in the AHSAA North-South All-Star game in December.

Lawrence (6-5, 350) is rated a 3-star recruit by 247 Sports, with offers from Charlotte, Georgia Southern and South Florida. The 6-4, 200-pound Mattingly — also a 3-star recruit — had offers from Coastal Carolina and Duke, among other schools.

The four signees Wednesday join five high school players from the December early signing period and 21 mid-year transfers who joined the program in January. UAB went 3-9 in 2024, its second season under head coach Trent Dilfer.
