UAB coach Trent Dilfer embraces Hugh Freeze’s spring idea at Auburn: ‘Pretty, please.’
UAB head coach Trent Dilfer has weighed in on the matter.
With Auburn’s first A-Day game under Hugh Freeze just days away, the Tigers’ first-year coach spoke to the media Monday and proposed a solution for spring games that would benefit not only his own program, but others across the state and region.
“I’m going to cry again for the solution,” Freeze said. “The solution is: Allow us to scrimmage somebody on A-Day. Another team. I think everybody would get out of it exactly what they want. Let Alabama play Troy and we play UAB or vice versa.”

On Tuesday evening, before UAB’s open window, Dilfer was asked his thoughts on Freeze’s long-held belief regarding spring games:
“Pretty. Pretty. Pretty please,” Dilfer said. “Yes, of course. He’s right. We all want, whether you’re Auburn or Alabama, you’re looking for live competition. You’re looking not to play yourself. If you’re UAB or Troy, you’re looking to play people perceived much better than you and you can use it as a test to see where your program is at.”
The Blazers are set to hold their annual spring game, Thursday, April 6, at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the annual Dragon Egg Hunt will be at halftime of the spring game, roughly around 6:45-7 p.m.
