UAB basketball selected No. 4 seed in NIT; Blazers host Southern Miss
The UAB basketball team may have come up short of making a second straight trip to the NCAA tournament but there are still more games to be played.
The Blazers have accepted an invite to the NIT, selected as the No. 4 seed in the Clemson bracket. and will face Southern Miss, Tuesday, March 14, at Bartow Arena in Birmingham.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

UAB and Southern Miss have met 55 times on the hardwood with the Blazers owning a 36-19 overall record — winning the last four meetings — and a 31-17 record as conference opponents. Both programs joined C-USA in 1995 and were conference rivals for more than two decades until Southern Miss departed to the Sun Belt for the 2022-2023 season.
The Blazers enter the NIT at 25-9 overall, ranked ninth nationally in scoring offense (82.2 ppg) and have the nation’s third-leading scorer (23.3 ppg) in Jordan “Jelly” Walker, who was a C-USA First-Team selection and C-USA all-tournament team pick.
Southern Miss finished the 2021-2022 season at 7-26 and had one of the best turnarounds in college basketball history in securing the Sun Belt regular-season title before losing to South Alabama in the league tournament. Southern Miss head coach Jay Ladner led the Golden Eagles to a 24-65 record in his first three years before eclipsing that total in finishing this season at 25-7 overall.
