UAB and Jacksonville State announce home-and-home series

The UAB and Jacksonville State football programs have announced a two-game home-and-home series for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

The Blazers will host the initial game of the home-and-home at Protective Stadium, Sept. 11, 2027, and make the return trip to JSU Stadium, Sept. 2, 2028.

The two teams have met six times six 1994 with UAB owning a 4-2 series lead after dropping the first two games in the Blazers’ final two seasons as a Division I-AA (FCS) program. UAB won the last meeting 31-0 in the 2021 season opener, the final season of former head coach Bill Clark, who coached both programs.

This is the first time both teams will meet as FBS-level programs as Jacksonville State just completed its inaugural season as a member of Conference USA, the former league home of UAB from 1999 to 2022. The Gamecocks finished the 2023 season at 9-4 overall and defeated Louisiana 34-31 in overtime in the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, their first bowl appearance and victory in school history.

UAB is coming off a 4-8 season under first-year head coach Trent Dilfer, who took over the program following the retirement of Clark and the 2022 interim season under the direction of former UAB offensive coordinator and new Louisiana-Monroe head coach Bryant Vincent.
