U.S. Rep. Strong: $120,000 federal funds secured for Scottsboro police vehicles
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong announced this week that he secured $120,000 for the purchase of new vehicles for the Scottsboro Police Department.
Strong, who represents north Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, said the money came from community project funding in the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations package.
The Scottsboro Police Department was able to purchase two fully outfitted Ford Police Inceptor Utility vehicles. These vehicles permit the department to investigate crimes on all severity levels with better and more up-to-date equipment, the congressman said.
The vehicles replaced vehicles approaching the end of their operational life.
“I am proud to have secured $120,000 in funding for the Scottsboro Police Department to purchase and outfit new patrol vehicles. This investment ensures our officers have the reliable equipment they need to protect and serve their community.
“Supporting our law enforcement is essential to maintaining the safety and well-being of North Alabama’s residents,” Strong said in a news release. “Investments like this not only enhance public safety but demonstrate our unwavering support for the brave men and women who serve.”
Scottsboro Police Lieutenant Coty Durham thanked Strong and his office for helping his department apply and secure the funding. He said the new vehicles would help his department serve the town’s residents.
“We brought their tax dollars back to their community,” Strong said. “They pay just as much in federal tax dollars as anybody else. Their police chief made us aware of a need. … This was very expensive equipment, and what we were able to do is make that happen.”
