U-Haul crashes near White House as Nazi flag found
A U-Haul truck crashed into security barriers around Lafayette Square near the White House on Monday night, the Secret Service confirmed.
The driver of the truck was arrested on multiple charges, including threatening to kill or harm a president, vice president or family member. A Nazi swastika flag was retrieved from the vehicle.
The US Park Police said the suspect faces the charge of threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict harm on a President, vice president or family member, the US Park Police in a statement to The Post.
He also faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, destruction of federal property and trespassing, according to the agency.
No injuries were reported.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m., Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi tweeted.
“There were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel and the cause and manner of the crash remain under investigation,” Guglielmi said.
A law enforcement source told CBS News the man is a U.S. citizen. After driving onto Lafayette Square, he made threatening statements aimed at President Biden and Vice President Harris. There were no explosives in the vehicle and no weapons.
