Tyler Booker taking reps at tackle for Alabama during spring football
Alabama football’s offensive line is thin on returning experience. At least for now, though the Crimson Tide is likely to get a boost once Kadyn Proctor returns from his sojourn to Iowa once the transfer portal opens.
For the time being, UA is working other options at tackle. The Tide is even looking to veteran left guard Tyler Booker, who told reporters Tuesday he has taken reps outside during practice.
“I’m willing to do whatever this team needs to win,” Booker said Tuesday. “If I have to play tackle, I’ll play tackle.”
Booker played tackle in high school, for IMG Academy in Florida. When the now-junior got to Alabama, Nick Saban and company moved him inside.
The move was a success, and Booker earned a spot on the SEC all-freshman team in 2022. He took a full-time starting job last season, grabbing all-SEC honors and becoming a leader for the Crimson Tide.
Right tackle JC Latham is off to the NFL now. Left-side starter Proctor transferred to Iowa, but is reportedly coming back through the portal.
How the offensive line shakes out is yet to be determined. Other tackle options include returnees Elijah Pritchett, Wilkin Formby and Texas A&M transfer Naquil Bertrand, among others.
The Crimson Tide’s annual A-Day game is Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, and will likely shed more light on the situation.
In the meantime, Booker said he was enjoying the reps on the outside, which he said were all on the left side. Booker’s main role has continued to be left guard.
“It’s like riding a bike,” Booker said.
