Two teens charged in weekend shooting, robbery of man in southwest Birmingham

Two teens have been charged in a weekend shooting and robbery of a man in southwest Birmingham.

Police on Wednesday said the suspects, both 17, are charged with attempted murder and first-degree robbery. Their names were not released because of their ages.

The incident happened about 2 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of St. Charles Avenue S.W. when the victim, a young adult male, was hanging out with friends, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade.

The victim was taken by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to UAB Hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Wade said detectives identified the teen suspects with the help of the department’s school resource officers and the Crime Reduction Team.

The first suspect was taken into custody shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 4100 block of Pinson Valley Parkway. Roughly an hour later, the second teen was captured in the 900 block of Airview Street.

Both are being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
