Two juveniles arrested after stolen firearm brought to Walker County school
Two juveniles face several charges after police say they brought a firearm onto the campus of Bankhead Middle School in Cordova.
According to Cordova police, investigators learned Monday that a 13-year-old juvenile was missing, along with a vehicle and firearm. The juvenile arrived at police headquarters shortly after, in the missing vehicle and in possession of two 9 mm handguns.
Police say the juvenile took one of the firearms to Bankhead Middle School on Friday and gave it to another juvenile during a field trip. That same juvenile kept it and carried it to school on Monday.
Police took the two juveniles into custody last night.
According to investigators, one will be charged with first degree property theft, second degree property theft, certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol, alteration of a manufacturer’s number on a firearm, and possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds. The other juvenile faces charges of possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds and third degree receiving stolen property. Both have been transferred to a juvenile detention facility.
They are also facing expulsion.
In a statement on social media, school officials said there are “no other safety concerns” at this time.
“With your continued support, our school can successfully improve the effectiveness of safety measures,” the statement read.
