Two Auburn women’s basketball players earn All-SEC honors

Despite finishing Southeastern Conference play 3-13, Auburn women’s basketball was represented in the SEC’s postseason awards.

Two players earned All-SEC honors, with senior forward DeYona Gaston named to the All-SEC Second Team and freshman guard Yuting Deng named to the All-SEC Freshman Team.

Gaston, a transfer from Texas, finished the regular season as the SEC’s third-leading scorer, averaging 22.5 points per game. She also added 7.2 rebounds per game, placing her tenth in the conference.

Deng was one of the stories of the year, joining the team midseason as a freshman from China. She averaged 12 points per game in 11 contests, all of which coming in SEC play. She also led the team in 3-pointers made (25).

Auburn will begin SEC Tournament play Wednesday night, facing Florida in the first round. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on SEC Network.
