Two Alabama hotels named among the best in the South

Two Alabama hotels are listed among the Top 25 Hotels in the South in Condé Nast Traveler’s 36th annual Readers’ Choice Awards. More than half a million readers participated in the publication’s online survey earlier this year.

At No. 10 on the Top 25 Hotels in the South list, 106 Jefferson, a Curio Collection hotel by Hilton, is located in downtown Huntsville’s historic Twickenham district. The 115-room boutique hotel’s design pays homage to local culture – particularly the city’s role in science and technology.

“We’re honored to receive this prestigious recognition,” said Jeremy Sadler, general manager at 106 Jefferson. “This is an excellent reflection of our team’s commitment to providing guests with a top-notch experience and ensuring they feel like a part of our community during their stay. We look forward to continuing to offer guests award-winning service.”

The Admiral on Government Street in downtown Mobile comes in at No. 15 on the list. Originally opened in 1940, the 156-room hotel is currently undergoing a property-wide renovation to modernize the guest rooms and public spaces. The revamp is set to be completed in early 2024.

Among the changes will be a new restaurant concept, LeMoyne’s, which is described as “a contemporary chophouse featuring fresh seafood from the Gulf, high-quality meats and a bold wine and cocktail list.”

Candidates for the awards had to receive a required minimum overall rating to be eligible. Criteria included rooms, service, food, design, location and activities/facilities as well as the new categories of cleanliness, community, concierge, experience, safety, accessibility and remote work.

In addition to ranking the best hotels in the world, the Readers’ Choice Awards also included lists of the top airlines, cruises, islands and luggage. Winners are featured on Condé Nast Traveler’s website as well as in the November issue of the magazine.
