Two 14-year-olds in stolen vehicle lead Jefferson County deputies on chase, caught on foot after crash

Two teenagers are in custody after leading Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies on a chase in a stolen vehicle, according to authorities.

Authorities said the 14-year-old boys hit two other vehicles during the pursuit, including a parked car, before crashing and fleeing on foot.

Just before 4 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to the 5000 block of Myron Massey Road to investigate a report of persons with guns, said sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby.

When they arrived, they tried to make a traffic stop but the driver of the Hyundai refused and a pursuit ensued.

During the chase, Irby said, the driver struck a motorist on Allison Bonnet Memorial Drive, causing minimal damage.

The pursuit ended in the 5300 block of Molton Gray Drive, where the driver struck a vehicle that was parked in a driveway.

Four suspects exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.

Midfield police officers immediately captured one of the suspects.

Jefferson County tracking dogs, as well as Bessemer officers, responded to the scene and captured a second suspect as he exited the wooded area.

Alabama State Troopers also responded to investigate.

Irby said one weapon was recovered.

Two other suspects are still at large.

One of the captured teens is charged with first-degree receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment, menacing, attempting to elude, certain persons forbidden to posses a firearm and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

The second suspect is charges with attempting to elude.

Both are being held in the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Facility.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
