Tuscaloosa teen killed, truck driver hurt in wreck

A Tuscaloosa teenager is dead and a truck driver suffered injuries following a two-vehicle crash in the city Tuesday afternoon, police say.

The victim, only publicly identified as an 18-year-old male from Tuscaloosa pending family notification of his death, was driving a Pontiac sedan northbound on Second Avenue into the eastbound lanes of 15th Street when the vehicle was struck by an oncoming Ford F250, according to Tuscaloosa police.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries in the wreck, police said.

The teen was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Tuscaloosa police’s Traffic Homicide Unit, which investigates both criminal and non-criminal serious crashes involving fatalities, responded to the scene and closed part of 15th Street for 2 1/2 hours, the department said.

The unit’s investigation into the crash was ongoing as of Tuesday night.
