Tuscaloosa prom night crash with semi-truck kills 2 teens, injures 2 others

The two teenagers who died in a traffic accident early Saturday morning in Tuscaloosa had attended the Paul W. Bryant High School prom together.

A family member of one of the teens, Samuel Brown, confirmed he and Madison Sims were the victims in the accident. A Facebook post by the Perry County school system also identified the teens.

Samuel Brown, 18, attended R.C. Hatch High School in Uniontown in Perry County. He played football for R.C. Hatch. “To say we will miss him would be an understatement,” Hatch High School posted on Facebook.

Madison Sims, 17, attended Bryant High School in Cottondale and was a member of the track team.

“We extend our most sincere condolences to the Brown and Sims family,” the Perry County school district post read. “We ask that you please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate the days ahead together.”

The prom was held at Tuscaloosa River Market on Jack Warner Drive.

Tuscaloosa police said the two teens died Saturday when the 2022 Tesla in which they were traveling in crashed with a semi-truck at Skyland Boulevard East and Interstate 20/59 about 1:50 a.m.

The Tesla was pinned underneath the truck’s trailer and the vehicle’s four occupants were trapped, police said.

Sims was the driver and Brown the front-seat passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Two other teens were injured in the wreck.

An 18-year-old female from Montgomery was transported to UAB Hospital with serious injuries, police said, and a 17-year-old female from Marion was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa with minor injuries.

She was listed in good condition Saturday morning, police said.
