AHSAA regional softball action began on Tuesday with Class 1A, Class 2A and Class 3A at four sites.

Teams in all three classes advanced to the championship round of the winners bracket in the double-elimination tournament while play in the elimination bracket knocked out two of the eight teams in each class.

Class 2A top-ranked Wicksburg was upset by unranked J.U. Blacksher 12-0 in second round play while Class 3A top-ranked Plainview and Class 1A top-ranked Skyline both advanced.

Regional tournaments are being played at Gulf Shores Sportsplex (South), Montgomery’s Lagoon Park (Central), Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park (East), and Florence’s Coffee O’Neal Park (North).

Each regional is comprised of 52 teams – four teams in Class 7A and eight teams in each of the other six classes – competing for 56 spots in the state championship tournament.

The winners bracket champion earns the state tournament No. 1 qualifier while the elimination bracket winner will be the No. 2 qualifier in each class.

Class 3A winners bracket games: Ashford vs. Opp (South), St. James vs. Beulah (Central), Piedmont vs. Plainview (East), Danville vs. Mars Hill Bible (North).

Class 2A winners bracket games: J.U. Blacksher vs. Luverne (South), Thorsby vs. Lamar County (Central), Pleasant Valley vs. Pisgah (East), Sumiton Christian vs. Hatton (North).

Class 1A winners bracket games: Leroy vs. Brantley (South), Maplesville vs. South Lamar (Central), Spring Garden vs. Skyline (East), Cherokee vs. Waterloo.

Class 3A, Class 2A and Class 1A finish on Wednesday while Class 6A begins play. Class 7A, Class 5A and Class 4A start play on Thursday.
