Tuberville’s white nationalists comments ‘disappointing and completely unacceptable,’ Sewell says

The only Democrat and only Black person in Alabama’s Congressional delegation today criticized remarks U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville made about white nationalists.

“Senator Tuberville’s inability to condemn white nationalists is disappointing and completely unacceptable,” U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, tweeted.

Tuberville told Kaitlan Collins during an appearance on CNN Monday night that he defined a white nationalist as “an American. Now, if that white nationalist is a racist, I’m totally against anything that.”

Collins then defined “white nationalist” as “someone who believes that the white race is superior to other races.”

“Well, that’s some people’s opinion,” Tuberville replied.

Tuberville’s remark came as Collins revisited the comments made by Alabama’s senior senator in May, when Tuberville was asked if he supported white nationalists in the military and he responded: “They [the Biden administration] call them that. I call them Americans.”
