Tuberville says Biden put US on âbrink of WW3â² as Rogers questions Austinâs hospitalization
Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville on Monday morning took to the social platform X to blast the Biden Administration for putting the U.S on the “brink of WW3.”
The Republican senator from Alabama cited the ongoing controversy over Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s hospitalization and the fact that the Biden Administration and senior lawmakers of both parties were reportedly unaware for days that he required intensive care.
“We’re on the brink of WW3. Brought to you by the @JoeBiden Administration that released sanctions on Iran and then sent them $6 billion…while @SecDef is unknowingly in the ICU,” Tuberville posted.
He went on to refer to reporting from The New York Times that tensions with Iran appear reanimated in light of the conflict between Hamas and Israel. That comes in spite of a deal that released $6 billion in Iranian assets in return for the release of five imprisoned Americans.
Iran has also stepped up its supplying of weapons to Russia during its ongoing war with Ukraine.
The conflicts come as President Joe Biden’s secretary of defense, an Alabama native, remains hospitalized for undisclosed reasons. Austin went into the hospital for an elective treatment on Jan. 1 and hasn’t been back to the Pentagon this year.
According to the Associated Press, the Pentagon announced Austin’s hospitalization at Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday, four days after he was admitted and without providing specifics.
Biden was informed Thursday about Austin’s heath issues, and they talked Saturday evening, according to the sources. Austin is a native of Mobile.
In a joint statement, Reps. Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and Adam Smith, the panel’s top Democrat, said they were “concerned with how the disclosure of the Secretary’s condition was handled.
Among the questions they had were what the medical procedure was and what the resulting complications were, how and when the delegation of his responsibilities was made, and the reason for the delay in notification to the president and lawmakers.
“Transparency is vitally important,” said the two lawmakers. Austin “must provide these additional details on his health and the decision-making process that occurred in the past week as soon as possible.”
