Tuberville reportedly tells GOP Senators: ‘I got y’all into this mess. I’m gonna get you out’

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville reportedly told Republican Senators on Tuesday he will find a way out of the stalemate caused by his holds on military promotions and nominations.

Tuberville said he will do so before Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) brings a resolution to the floor in coming weeks that would “swiftly confirm the hundreds of highly qualified and dedicated military leaders being held up by Senator Tuberville before the end of the year.”

That is according to posts on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, from reporter Andrew Desiderio of Punchbowl News.

“Listen, everyone. I got y’all into this mess. I’m gonna get you out,” Tuberville reportedly said during a closed door lunch.

Efforts by AL.com to reach Tuberville’s office for comment were not immediately successful.

It was not clear how Tuberville would end the blockade.

Tuberville on Monday said nothing had changed in terms of his stance. Tuberville suggested to CNN if the Senate includes language in its final version of the NDAA to eliminate the Pentagon’s abortion policy “it probably would” resolve his objection.

Tuberville objects to a policy that covers travel expenses if military members are stationed in a state where abortion is illegal. Last month, Tuberville said he is open to different options to end the blockade.

Tuberville has been criticized by several senators, including his Republican colleagues, for weakening the military through the promotions blockade, which has held up more than 350 promotions since February.
