Tuberville: Navy ‘so woke’ because ‘people doing poems on aircraft carriers’

Tommy Tuberville cited “people doing poems on aircraft carriers” as a reason the U.S. Navy is “so woke,” Alabama’s senior senator said Wednesday during an appearance on Fox News.

“Right now, we are so woke in the military. We’re losing recruits right and left,” Tuberville said on “The Ingraham Angle.”

The senator has drawn the anger of Democrats — including President Biden — over his months-long hold on roughly 300 military nominations over new Defense Department policies covering abortion.

Tuberville made the comment about poems on aircraft carriers in response to Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro accusing the senator of “aiding and abetting communists” through his hold on military promotions.

But the senator, who contends that the Defense policies are illegal, has claimed it was the military’s pivot to wokeness, not his hold, that is harming the armed forces.

On Fox, Tuberville said the Navy is adopting woke policies.

“Secretary Del Toro of the Navy, he’s needs to get to building ships, he needs to get to recruiting and he needs to get wokeness out of our Navy,” he said.

“We got people doing poems on aircraft carriers over a loudspeaker,” Tuberville continued. “It is absolutely insane the direction we are headed in our military — and we’re headed downhill, not uphill.”
