Tua Tagovailoa slips to third in Pro Bowl Games fan vote
Two San Francisco 49ers stars overtook Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the homestretch of fan voting for the Pro Bowl Games.
At each of the NFL’s first three updates, the former Alabama All-American had the most support from fans. But Tagovailoa’s lead of 44,664 votes on second-place Christian McCaffrey was overcome since the most recent report on Dec. 20 – and not just by McCaffrey.
With voting complete, the San Francisco running back remained in second place behind 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who led this season’s fan voting with 451,864. McCaffrey polled 429,993, and Tagovailoa came in third with 414,502 votes.
The selections made by fans, players and coaches count one-third apiece toward determining the Pro Bowl rosters for the AFC and NFC teams.
Tagovailoa had the most fan support in 2022 with 306,861 votes. But he wasn’t chosen for the Pro Bowl. When the NFL announced the selections for last season’s teams, the AFC quarterbacks were the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen and Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow.
This season, Tagovailoa leads the NFL in passing yards, and he’ll find out on Wednesday night if he’ll earn Pro Bowl recognition for the 2023 season.
Fifteen players from Alabama high schools and colleges finished in the top 10 in the fan voting at their positions (with rank in the NFL and conference at their position):

Last season, the NFL eliminated the Pro Bowl game and replaced it with the Pro Bowl Games, a skills competition and flag-football contest for the selected players.
The 7-on-7 flag football game featuring the Pro Bowl players will be held on Feb. 4 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, as the culmination of a multi-day AFC vs. NFC competition in which all-stars will demonstrate their football and non-football skills in a variety of events.
