Tua Tagovailoa plays guitar, sings with Darius Rucker

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa isn’t playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII. The Dolphins lost in the first round of the AFC playoffs to the Kansas City Chiefs 26-7 on Jan. 13.

But the former Alabama All-American did play at the Super Bowl – guitar, specifically.

Tagovailoa served as the host of the after-party for the EA Sports Madden Bowl on Thursday night. The 99 Club, as the party was called, took place at House of Blues Las Vegas and was one of the many Las Vegas events held in conjunction with Super Bowl LVIII.

The party included a performance by Grammy Award winner Darius Rucker, and during a performance of Rucker’s hit song “Wagon Wheel,” Tagovailoa took the stage, played his guitar and sang.

Rucker is a noted Miami fan. His song as a member of Hootie and the Blowfish “Only Wanna Be With You” includes the line: “I’m such a baby, yeah, the Dolphins make me cry.”

On Dec. 4, when Tagovailoa appeared on ESPN2′s “ManningCast” of the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars game, he played the Eric Clapton song “Tears in Heaven” on guitar.

After a Dolphins’ fan site suggested a Tagovailoa and Rucker jam session, the musician replied: “I’m in.” On Thursday night, they gave their performance.

After defeating Miami, Kansas City went on to win the AFC championship and will play the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII at 5:30 p.m. CST Sunday in Las Vegas.
