Trussville man killed when lawnmower flips on top of him in Homewood
A landscape worker killed when his riding lawnmower flipped on top of him in a median off Interstate 65 has now been identified.
Christopher Tovaris Collins, 38, died Friday afternoon, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. He lived in Trussville.
The accident happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the grassy median between I-65 northbound and the Oxmoor Road exit.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Collins was cutting the grass when the lawnmower rolled over multiple times down an incline.
Collins was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:47 p.m.
Homewood police Sgt. Mark Trippe said the victim worked for a private landscaping crew that was hired by the City of Homewood to clean up the area.
The portion that was being cut was on the state right of way.
