Trussville man charged with killing father, wounding mother denied bond under Aniah’s Law

A Trussville man accused of fatally shooting his father and injuring his mother at their Moody home will be held without bond.

John Adam Bowlin, 36, is charged with murder in the death of 61-year-old John D. Bowling and attempted murder in the wounding of 60-year-old Connie L. Bowlin.

Moody police were dispatched at 11 p.m. Monday to a possible domestic assault on Lee Green Road. When they arrived, they found the victims.

John D. Bowlin was pronounced dead on the scene. Connie L. Bowlin was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham in stable condition, said Moody police Chief Reece Smith.

Moody police and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team took John Adam Bowlin into custody at a home in the 800 block of Argo Margaret Road.

He was booked into the St. Clair County Jail at 2:38 a.m. Tuesday.

A motive has not yet been disclosed.

John Adam Bowlin made his first court appearance Wednesday, at which time his bond was denied under Aniah’s Law.

St. Clair County District Judge wrote in his order that the suspect is a danger to himself and the public.

A full Aniah’s Law hearing is set for 9 a.m. Thursday.
