Trump visit will shut down Tuscaloosa bar: ‘Bummer news’ before graduation, brewer says
One Tuscaloosa business owner is asking for support after he says the planned visit of President Donald Trump will put him out of business for the day.
Druid City Brewing Co. owner and brewmaster Bo Hicks, in a social media post, said he was notified by Tuscaloosa police that Hackberry Lane and 15th Street in Tuscaloosa will be closed from 4 p.m. until an undetermined time.
Hicks says the only way to access his business is from 15th Street. Druid City Brewery is located on 14th Street.
“Well we sorta got some bummer news and I’d really appreciate some community help,” Hicks said.
“Now as all small businesses we are cash flow based so being told we essentially could not open is sorta a super hardship,” Hicks said.
“It also stinks that the night before graduation is a busy night for us. I was gonna ask that if anyone would like to help us please come by today, Wednesday 4-30, get a crowler, buy some rad food get a gift certificate.”
Hicks said his employees will be paid for the day.
“I try to put good out in our community and our community has always been there for us. Please let others know that might want to help and thank you all,” Hicks wrote.
Attempts to contact Tuscaloosa police were not immediately successful.
President Donald Trump announced last week that he would be giving a commencement address to the university’s graduating class of 2025.
On Tuesday, the school announced that Trump will be joined by former Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban.
The event is scheduled to take place Thursday at the University of Alabama at 6:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
