Trump praises Tuberville’s ‘BIG WIN’ over ‘Radical Left Fascists’ with military nomination votes

The U.S. Senate confirmed three top military leaders, filling the posts after monthslong delays and Sen. Tommy Tuberville is still holding up hundreds of other nominations and promotions for senior officers.

Thursday afternoon, Gen. Randy George was confirmed as Army Chief of Staff, and Gen. Eric Smith was confirmed as commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps.

On Wednesday, the Senate confirmed Gen. CQ Brown as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, putting him in place to succeed Gen. Mark Milley when he retires at the end of the month.

Democrats are still trying to maneuver around holds placed on more than 300 nominations by Tuberville over the Pentagon’s abortion policy.

Tuberville has been blocking the Senate from the routine process of approving the military nominations in groups, forcing Democrats to bring the nominations up one by one — a process that could take months and delay other priorities.

Former President Donald Trump praised Tuberville over the votes on Truth Social:

“BIG WIN FOR TOMMY. Unlike McConnell and his group of automatic Democrat YES VOTES, Tommy T is willing to take on the Radical Left Fascists & Thugs that are destroying our Country. What a difference!”

Tuberville in November endorsed Trump’s 2024 campaign for the White House — long before some other Republicans in the state’s Congressional delegation.

“You know what you’re getting with President Trump,” Tuberville said at the time. “He doesn’t have to learn the ropes. He knows the ropes. He won’t be running again (in 2028). I like someone who will come in and say, ‘Listen, I don’t care. I will do what’s good for America.’”

In June, Trump praised Tuberville as he took the stage in Novi, Michigan.

“One of the great Senators, one of the most powerful people, by the way an incredible football coach, he was an incredible football coach and now he’s an incredible Senator,” Trump said as he pointed out Tuberville in the crowd.

President Joe Biden called Trump’s visit to Alabama in August an endorsement of Tuberville’s “reckless political antics.”

“No one is shocked to see Donald Trump endorse Tommy Tuberville’s reckless political antics that put our military readiness at risk. If Donald Trump cared about America’s national security, he’d join the overwhelming majority of Americans who oppose Tuberville’s blockade of military promotions,” Biden’s campaign said in a statement to AL.com.

Tuberville won election to the Senate in 2020 in large part to Trump backing just before Tuberville’s Republican primary runoff against Jeff Sessions, the former Alabama senator and ex-Trump attorney general who drew the anger of his former boss.
