Trump praises Katie Britt, makes false claim about Mo Brooks endorsement: ‘People don’t want to hear bulls..t’
During an Ohio campaign rally on Saturday, former President Donald Trump voiced his support for Alabama U.S. Sen. Katie Britt despite it being widely mocked on social media and late night shows.
“Who liked the job she did the other night? I thought she did a very nice job. Liberals didn’t like it very much, I guess,” Trump said during the rally.
It’s not the first time he praised the speech.
“Katie Britt was a GREAT contrast to an Angry, and obviously very Disturbed, ‘President,’” Donald Trump posted on Truth Social after her SOTU response. “She was compassionate and caring, especially concerning Women and Women’s Issues. Her conversation on Migrant Crime was powerful and insightful. Great job Katie!”
However, Britt faced national backlash after her Republican rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address after she blamed Biden’s border policies for an assault that happened in Mexico during the Bush administration.
The victim Britt was referring to was Karla Jacinta Romero, who was sexually assaulted in 2004 in Mexico, not in recent years in the United States, as Britt implied in her State of the Union response.
Dayton rally attendees nodded and cheered as Trump discussed his love for Alabama and stood fast in his belief that the 2021 election was “crooked” and that mainstream media is “fake news.”
There is no evidence that President Joe Biden did not win the election.
Trump also brought up comments by former U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks during the former president’s appearance in Cullman in 2021.
“There are some people who are despondent about the voter fraud election theft of 2020,” Brooks said at the August 2021 rally. “Folks, put that behind you.”
Trump said he was backstage being interviewed by ‘ABC fake News’ at the time.
CULLMAN, ALABAMA – AUGUST 21: Former U.S. President Donald Trump (R) welcomes candidate for U.S. Senate and U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) to the stage during a “Save America” rally at York Family Farms on August 21, 2021 in Cullman, Alabama. With the number of coronavirus cases rising rapidly and no more ICU beds available in Alabama, the host city of Cullman declared a COVID-19-related state of emergency two days before the Trump rally. “Mo Brooks gets up and he says, ‘Let’s forget about the election, the election was fine … we have to get on to the future.’ He got booed,” Trump said.
As a result, Trump said, Brooks lost a significant lead in the GOP primary runoff to Britt.
“I endorsed (Britt) the following morning,” Trump said. “We have another senator now because people don’t want to hear bullshit.”
However, nearly 10 months passed between the rally and when Trump endorsed Britt.
He withdrew his endorsement of Brooks in March 2022 and endorsed Britt in June 2022. She won the runoff less than two weeks after his endorsement.
“It’s quite clear that Donald Trump has no loyalty to anyone or anything but himself,” Brooks said after the Britt endorsement. “He looked at who he thought had the best chance of winning and that’s who he endorsed. It had nothing to do with philosophy of government other than that, he abandoned the conservative movement and the MAGA agenda in order to try to improve the reputation of his brand.”
