President Donald Trump went after Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zorhan Mamdani’s looks and intelligence while ripping the “communist lunatic” following Tuesday night’s primary victory.

“It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor,” Trump posted to his Truth Social account Wednesday afternoon.

Mamdani, who defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and several other contenders in Tuesday’s primary, is a democratic socialist who campaigned on establishing city-run grocery stores, a $30 minimum wage by 2030 and free tuition at city colleges.

Trump suggested Mamdani was an extreme candidate while criticizing the state lawmaker’s personal appearance.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., also caught strays from Trump in the post.

“We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous,” Trump posted. “He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”

A fresh round of infighting erupted among Democratic officials, donors and political operatives on Wednesday, a day after Cuomo conceded the Democratic primary. Mamdani appears on a glide path to the nomination, though ranked choice vote counting will determine the final outcome next week.

Many progressives cheered the emergence of the young and charismatic Mamdani, whose candidacy caught on with viral campaign videos and a focus on the cost of living. But the party’s more pragmatic wing cast the outcome as a serious setback in their quest to broaden Democrats’ appeal and move past the more controversial policies that alienated would-be voters in recent elections.
